Key won't turn in the lock!
If you insert a key and it is not turning the lock, it’s time to pull it out and access the problem. Many times, it can be the wrong key! Otherwise, it may be that the lock is stiff and needs some maintenance. Most of us have some WD40 available at the home and it will do in a pinch! Spray the WD40 into the lock and let it sit for a few minutes. At this point, you can try the key again but don’t force it! As mentioned, it may be the wrong key. Many keys on our key chain may fit many locks but won’t open them, if they are not the right key! Gently, try other keys that go into the lock. If this fails you can spray again and wait longer.
Don't let a broken key happen!
Although, it may be that this issue has locked you out and you don’t have an handy WD40. Gently, try all keys and see if it was the wrong one. Otherwise, you can head out to the hardware store and pick up some graphite lubricant. WD40 does if there is nothing else but it is best to purchased a graphite or Telfon base lubricant. Ideally, these lubricants are best because they don’t attract dust or dirt to the lock.
