How to prevent a broken key from happening

1. Use a gentler touch with your keys: you can minimize the chances of a broken key by simply using less strength on the key and lock. Moreover, keep your locks lubricated by using a standard and easy to find spray (WD40 for example). By doing so, the key will go in more smoothly and you won’t need to use force to open the lock.

2.Only use your keys for its original purpose: Using your keys for any action that isn’t locking and unlocking the door (opening a can of soda for example), will eventually cause serious damage to the key and weaken it.

3.Never force a key inside: If the key is not entering properly, take it out and check what the problem is. Maybe you’re using the wrong key, or inserting it wrong. Using too much force with your key will most likely lead to it breaking.

4.Get your key replace every couple of years: As a result, being made from a soft metal, the key has shorter durability than what most people will think. So, in order to keep your key at its best shape, change them every now and then. Furthermore, if you notice that the key is starting to bend, has some damage on it or if it’s starting to crack, replace it immediately!
